Handwoven textile based on Saori weaving ideas

I am an intuitive textile creator based in Tokyo. After discovering saori weaving in 2014 I slowly explored weaving through the saori community and strongly feel connected to the idea behind it.

My education background is in the sciences, with some years studying electronics and semiconductors, and many more years in neuroscience. I have no formal education in arts and have learned most of my weaving skills through the Saori weaving community where self learning is emphasized.

As from my formal studies in the sciences I am very much interested in the human mind, and my interest in crafting dates back since childhood. Combining them with curiosity has lead me to hand weaving.

Magicthinking is a realization of how I perceive myself as a dreamy person, struggling at times to understand the meaning of a somewhat foggy space in my mind. This calls for exploration and I try to filter them out in a form of weaving pieces that I create. The mind could sometimes be a magical vessel where interesting things are waiting to be discovered.

I weave with passion, keeping in mind what the human hands can achieve that the machineries can’t. I try to listen to my feelings and how my mind interact with the environment, my experiences; and incorporate them in the weaving process.

During the weaving process a textile can turn into something unexpected from how one started it in the beginning. It is therefore important that I let the textile speak for itself when it’s turned into a piece of clothing. I often do not know what I’m making until they are completely off the loom and washed.

What you will find in each Magicthinking piece is a mixture of creativity, spontaneous ideas and a little bit of fun.
